Letterpress printing
first began in the 14th century and the basic
theory remains unchanged. Letterpress has
a tactile quality and nostalgic feel that
is impossible to replicate with any other
form of printing. Nowadays, Letterpress printing
is only offered by specialist printers and
offers a truly unique alternative to modern
day printing methods.
Letterpress printing uses a photoengraved
magnesium plate, which is loaded into the
type bed and coated with a layer of ink, by
the inking rollers. Pressure is then applied
causing the platen and bed, which holds the
paper, to close like a clamshell. Letterpress
printing leaves an unmistakable impression
in the paper.
